Pencil Drawing Techniques

Pencils are affordable and portable! You can take them anywhere! This class is for those who are already using pencils or those looking for a new medium. Learn about the tools and techniques of pencil drawing; how to create a variety of textures such as shiny metal, flower blossoms, reptile scales, animal fur and more. Working with a variety of subjects from reference photos and still life produce your own pencil artwork. Open to all levels of experience. Held in the Blaine City Hall lunchroom.  Bring paper, ruler, kneaded eraser and pencils (2H, 4H, 2B and 4B.

Printmaking Workshop

This is an introduction to a basic method of printmaking that dates back to ancient China and to the Japanese woodcuts of the Ukiyo-e. We will design, cut and print a 4”x6” carve block with a small hand press. The instructor has a set of tools for the workshop and will provide small Speedy Carve Block plates, ink and paper for printing. This is an excellent starting point for artists to begin working in printmaking!  Held in the Blaine City Hall lunchroom.

Pen & Ink Drawing Techniques

Explore both traditional and innovative approaches to line drawing with pen and ink.  Demonstrations introduce you to the different types of pens, papers, and inks.  Course projects cover a full repertoire of line-making techniques, including gesture, contour, hatching, stippling and developed and freestyle lines, as well as the use of ink washes for grounds and shading. Note: Bring black felt-tip, or rollerball drawing pens and a 9″x12″ sketchbook to the first class. !  Held in the Blaine City Hall lunchroom.
